Simple, safe and practical! The natural way to bath your baby.

|
The TummyTub® is a baby bath, designed in the Netherlands by professional
caregivers, to ease the transition from the comfort of the mother's womb
to the new, big world.
Babies naturally adapt back to the foetal position and it is amazing to
see how quickly they calm and relax.
The benefits of the TummyTub® are acknowledged in maternity hospitals
and homes throughout the world. Endorsed by physicians, midwives and nursery
nurses. Check out the international TummyTub® website
www.tummy-tub.com
and find out for yourself that this unique baby bath is being sold and used
all over the world.
The advantages of bathing in the TummyTub®:
- Bathing in the familiar foetal position - helps babies feel reassured and relaxed
- Stress free bathing for both baby and parent - excellent for colicky babies
- Anti-skid base and low centre of gravity for safety and stability
- Compact size - takes less space and less use of water
- Ergonomic hand grips and extremely lightweight
- Made of environmentally friendly materials
- Less surface area of water, the water stays warm for approx. 20 min.!
- Simple, safe and practical
- ASTM (USA), TÜV (Germany) and BSI (England) tested and approved
- The TummyTub® is permitted to carry the seal GS (Proven Safety).
When developing the TummyTub®, no less than 17 different models of
bathing-buckets were tested by midwives and maternity ward nurses in their
daily practice. The first prototypes (see pictures) were discarded by
them as either too wide, whereby the babies could not feel the sides and
therefore were not reassured or, were not deep enough to allow the babies
to be sufficiently immersed in the water to keep warm. The smaller TummyTub®
would also mean the babies would outgrow it much sooner. The head
support may have looked very attractive but also proved to be unpractical,
as the baby could only be held comfortably from one side.

Drawing 1:
Too large - the baby cannot find support on either side, also the neck
support is useless!
Drawing 2:
Too wide in front - the baby cannot find support for its legs
Drawing 3:
Too wide - the baby is not secure. There is also limited room to manoeuvre
for the parents because of the head support.

The water volume
You decide on how much water you need to bath your baby. The water level
marking on the tub is intended only as a suggestion, as not every baby is
the same size. However, in the first few weeks after birth we recommend
to have sufficient water to cover your baby's shoulders. This will
ensure your baby does not get cold. Please feel free to watch our TummyTub
video, as it will explain more about how to safely put your baby in the tub.
The water temperature
The water temperature should be between 35°C and 37°C. The temperature
can be taken with a baby bath thermometer and for extra safety you can
use the "elbow test". Because of the small water surface area of the TummyTub®,
the water will remain at a comfortable temperature for about 20 minutes.
Please take note of the following safety warnings when using your TummyTub®
ALWAYS keep your baby within arms reach!
NEVER leave your baby in care of children!
Children can fall into buchets and drown!
Keep children away from buckets with even a small amount of water!

Why not a regular bucket?
-
Regular buckets don't have an anti-skid bottom. Buckets are not tapered towards
the bottom and therefore do not not give your baby a sense of security.
-
Babies discover their new world by touching with their hands and tasting
with their mouth. The pigments in plastic buckets will most likely contain
toxic elements, as regular buckets are not meant for bathing babies.
-
The handle of a regular bucket can easily hurt baby's little fingers.
-
Regular buckets are too low. The water level is therefore not sufficient
and your baby can't stay warm. Simply using a bigger bucket will not work either, since
a bigger bucket would mean less sense of security (this was one of the comments from
the nurses in the test phase of the TummyTub®).
-
A regular bucket would never have the ASTM, TÜV and BSI approval for a safe baby bath.
